Happiness
A couple of weeks ago, I bought a book at Brookshire Bros.(yes,, the grocery store). They had a table full of bargain books for 75% off. I bought 5 books for $7.25. I love a bargain. I did not really recognize any of the books, but they were all under $2, so I thought it was worth the risk. I bought 3 kid's books for Liam. Anyway, one of the books was Home to Holly Springs by Jan Karon. I have heard of her. She is the author of the Mitford Series. I have not read any of those, but I have heard of them. Home to Holly Springs is the first in the " Father Tim" novels. I have not read any of those either. The book is set in Mississippi. I love any book with a setting in the South. The book was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed it very much even with the main character being a 70 year old man.
I found a quote in the book that struck me. It is a quote from Elizabeth Goudge. I have never heard of her, but I like the quote. I will have to Google her to see if I am familiar with anything she has written. So, here is the quote:
Happiness is like swallows in the spring. It may come and nest under your eaves or it may not. You can not command it. When you expect to be happy, you are not , and when you don't expect to be happy, there is suddenly Easter in your soul though it be midwinter.
Easter in my soul. That is a wonderful thought... a rebirth in my soul when I least expect it. I like that.
